Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I should report something?

When you find yourself thinking about someone’s behavior or having concerns, listen to your internal judgement and report. It is always best to report out of an abundance of caution than ignore concerning behavior.

Will the person find out I shared information about them?

Tell Somebody reports are not directly shared with a person of concern. Our professionals work to discuss concerning behavior in a way that expresses care rather than judgement and identify strategies to help the individual move forward with an action plan. In specific cases, the person of concern may infer who submitted the report. Regardless, the emphasis remains on addressing behaviors.

Can reports be made anonymously?

Yes, reports can be made anonymously via the SMS-based reporting option powered by RealResponse.

The RealResponse system does allow our team to communicate with you via encrypted text messaging. However, your identity and phone number remain anonymous unless you choose to disclose that information at a later time.

Who does the Tell Somebody reports go to?

The Tell Somebody reports are triaged to several different University offices which may include professionals in the Division of Student Affairs, Human Resources & Organizational Effectiveness, Faculty Affairs, and the University Police Department.

Will I hear back following my report?

Yes, a member of the  team should contact you at a minimum to let you know we received the report and request additional information when needed.

What happens when I report something?

A team of trained professionals reviews the information submitted determining what type of action might be needed. For example – is there a direct safety threat that needs immediate attention or does the subject of concern need resources such as information related to food insecurity. Once the report is reviewed and an action plan identified, staff work to design strategies to best support the subject of concern and person who has submitted the Tell Somebody report.

Will the police be involved if I make a report?

The Texas A&M University Police Department may receive copies of Tell Somebody reports. The police will directly intervene when safety threats are present such as someone threatening violence toward themselves or others or in cases of criminal intent. Tell Somebody Reports containing Clery reportable incidents are forwarded to the Texas A&M Clery Reporting Officials.
